About FoodFactly
FoodFactly is a free reference for the nutrition content of foods: calories, macronutrients, vitamins and minerals, per 100 g and per serving.
Where the data comes from
Generic foods and ingredients come from USDA FoodData Central, the nutrient database of the U.S. Department of Agriculture: Foundation Foods, SR Legacy and the Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies (FNDDS). Packaged products come from Open Food Facts, a collaborative database of food labels. Details are in the methodology and on the data license page.
Principles
- We never invent nutritional values. If a source does not report a nutrient, the page says so.
- Every value shows its source and whether it was measured, calculated or taken from a label.
- Raw, cooked, dried and processed foods are separate records and are never mixed.
- When sources disagree, all values are kept and shown; none are averaged away.
- Text on food pages is generated from the data itself. Editorial guides are reviewed before they are published for search.
Corrections
Found an error? Values that come from a source can be corrected at the source: USDA FoodData Central for generic foods, or the product's page on Open Food Facts, which anyone can edit. FoodFactly picks up changes in its regular updates.
