Editorial policy

Data first

Food pages are generated from the stored nutrient data. Sentences such as "higher in protein than most poultry" are computed from our category statistics and appear only when the data supports them. Automated tools never create or change nutritional values.

Review

Health-related editorial content, such as the nutrition guides, is reviewed by an editor before it is offered to search engines. Unreviewed content carries a notice and is excluded from search indexing. Records that fail our consistency checks or lack data are also excluded until they are corrected or reviewed.

No health claims

We describe what foods contain. We do not make claims that foods prevent or treat diseases, and we do not publish ratings or reviews of products.

Corrections

When a source corrects a value, our regular updates pick it up. Records can also be corrected or excluded by an editor.
