Daily Values for Nutrients: the Reference Amounts Behind %DV

The FDA Daily Values used on FoodFactly to calculate the percentages on every food page, for fat, sodium, fiber, vitamins and minerals.

This guide is awaiting editorial review.

The percentages on FoodFactly food pages are calculated from the Daily Values (DVs) the U.S. Food and Drug Administration uses on Nutrition Facts labels for adults and children aged 4 years and older (21 CFR 101.9). The full list of reference amounts appears below the article.

Daily Values serve as a common yardstick on labels. They are not targets tailored to a person. Age, sex, pregnancy, activity and health conditions all change individual needs. Questions about your own intake belong with a doctor or a registered dietitian.

Some nutrients, such as total sugars and trans fat, have no Daily Value; for those FoodFactly shows the amount only.
